Christy Birmingham and Jolie Buchanan

My mind goes to the river,
Only seconds before my toes follow, and
My thoughts rush over debris that sits at the
Bottom of a waterway full of tears.

My flesh is eaten by the liquid smoothness of
A river and of a light, with a newfound joy that
Resonates within my bones.

As I reach forward with my hands, I scoop up
The weeds that peak through the water,
The softness of my palms meeting them for
A thoughtful exchange of what to enjoy tomorrow.

Indeed, there is more to be had.

And, in turn, through our meeting of
Weeds, water and whimsy,
I tell myself that it is okay to start at the bottom
Again.
