aamora member Jolie Buchanan is part of a group exhibition of hand-made paper arts currently at the Torpedo Factory Art Center located in Old Town Alexandria, Virgina. The opening reception is July 8th from 6pm – 8pm with public viewing July 12 – 29th, 2012.
Prior to the opening, Peace Paper Project co-directors Drew Matott and Margaret Mahan along with Arielle Matthews joined with the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Target Gallery to conduct a seven-day workshop with art therapists, artists, military, police and other emergency response service members. The focus of the workshop was pulping articles of clothing that have personal significance and create a body of artwork for exhibition.
Through paper, writing, book-making, and printmaking activities, Peace Paper Project works to transform significant articles of clothing into works of art which broadcast personal stories, mutual understanding and healing.
Peace Paper Project operates everywhere from private workshops to public demonstrations in order to perpetuate the art of hand paper-making while adapting to the needs of each specific community.
Peace Paper merges its skill set of paper-making, bookbinding, printmaking, & creative writing with the unique practices and concepts of host communities as a way of empowering the collaboration.
